Twenty-One Essential Basics – Part 1

The general concept of the game is to be handed cards totaling up to twenty one. Each competitor is given 2 cards. When a blackjack player is handed a 9 or less and an Ace they have been dealt a soft hand. When the player receives no Ace cards it is called as a hard hand. As soon as the cards have been given to all players at the table, which includes the dealer, every player is provided the chance to make 1 of 6 choices:

Taking another card (Hit): When a gambler announces hit me the croupier will give them another card, if the adding of that card makes the total greater than twenty-one the black jack player will have lost and that’s the end of the game, if the card makes the value of the hand to 21 the player wins and if the value of the hand has not yet reached twenty one they’re still in the game.

Keeping the hand you have been given: If a blackjack player is happy with the hand they’ll hold. As soon as this has happened the croupier will disclose his or her cards and the gambler who has accumulated twenty one or the nearest to twenty one will come away with a win.

Doubling Down: A gambler may request to double down which doubles the bet they have made. As soon as you’ve taken this action you can only be given one more card. The details of doubling down are normally specified by the table or casino rules so before wagering make sure you’re at ease with the house established rules. If you’re competing at an internet casino this is usually quite simple.

Stay tuned for part two.
